Going Downhill Fast

Pros

Good learning opportunity, get to learn about many topics in a fast-paced environment. Have interesting conversations with executives. Good first job provided you have a plan to leave in a year or less and keep your expectations adjusted that this a job that you aren't supposed to like. Professional development is there if you ask for it.

Cons

AlphaSights prides itself on its people and community. However, in practice, the culture is one of secrecy and gossip perpetuated by leadership. The lack of external hiring leads to a company managed by people who have never worked outside of the AlphaSights environment and as such lack the skills to manage thoughtfully. It feels like a college campus with young 'professionals' who never learned professionalism. Leadership changes things frequently with little notice and will move teams around at a fast pace with little thought for employee buy-in or preference. There is never an instance in which work can be fast enough and quality is secondary to speed. Work is repetitive and never-ending with a majority of time spent sending emails via template one at a time to hundreds of executives a day hoping that one bites rather than researching or being thoughtful in approach. I would not be surprised to see this company's reputation suffer greatly in the coming months and years. Turnover is high and constant and is not at all an issue for management. They are confident they will fill open slots with a new round of graduates that will accept the working conditions because they don't know any better. Management is selected based on who sticks around for the full two years and those left standing are promoted. This leads to leadership consisting of only those who buy into how the company is running, everyone who has noticed these issues has already moved on. Pay is increased at rates lower than inflation and while there is unlimited performance pay this is not in control of associates and metrics while doable are difficult to surpass. Performance pay was decreased twice in the year+ I was present. There is a well-known phrase amongst AlphaSights formers - "The grass really is greener" repeated by everyone who has left to their friends still stuck in the company. It holds true.

Worst Job I've Had

Pros

good variety of snacks and drinks

Cons

1. Management is utterly inexperienced and are just promoted based on the fact they have been there for 2 years because most associates leave before they even finish the 2 years there. There is no respect for decent work hours and managers make you feel guilty about attending a 1 hour gym class AFTER work, even though you continue with work after you finish the class. 2. Managers would constantly belittle you and make you feel "stupid" for things that are out of your control. They also don't take your concerns seriously and tell you that "life is unfair, deal with it" when you voice out a concern regarding having the unfairness of being stuck in a team with difficult clients and being judged on the same KPI 3. VPs are even worse because most of them are not even close to being mature or experienced enough to handle the role. A number of them are petty and will call you out for minor things such as "not wishing good morning sincere enough" or not "giving enough eye contact" even though you're swamped at work.

Pros

Superb place to work! Really great atmosphere, people work hard but their is a great commission structure to help drive you along!

Cons

Does not leave you too qualified to leave into non sales roles! Although you will build great consulting (banking etc) contacts which will help a little
