Pros

- Since it is a growing company you have the opportunity to earn responsibility faster than you would in a larger more bureaucratic corporation - Great work environment - As a first year Analyst you are given the opportunity to have a genuine impact on the company - Each day is different and you have the chance to learn about various industries - Senior management is very accessible and encourages open dialogue - Unique work that is challenging and requires you to think on your feet

Cons

Not a con but a comment.... If you're the type of person that wants to just show up to work and coast through the day this is not the job for you.

Pros

- High compensation for a grad job, but if you are not driven solely by money, you’ll burn out quickly

Cons

- YOU ARE JUST A NUMBER: AlphaSights only cares about the revenue you bring them. Managers put pressure on their associates to hit their targets, because their performance is evaluated based on their associates’ performance. You will constantly get feedback about increasing your volume of work (nagging experts more and more). Your feedback will never be regarding the quality of your work or your critical thinking. It is always just volume. Associates are told to use every measure possible to get in touch with an expert - phone calls to their personal number, texts, emails, Linkedin messages. You’re basically a professional harasser. I don’t know why Alphasights recruits people from top universities because no real intelligence is required for this job. - CULTURE OF FEAR: The culture is extremely political and I quickly realised that I need to be very careful with what I say around my coworkers. Everything you say can be used against you. Not to mention the constant gossip around the office regarding people getting fired, which creates a culture of fear that you will be next. It is also looked down on to leave on time (6:30pm). There is pressure to work overtime to meet sales targets, because of the consequences of underperforming (getting sacked). - UNETHICAL WORK: Others on here have already mentioned this, but the work you do is borderline unethical. Your job is to convince people to take part in interactions with a client. You often can’t tell the expert what the client actually wants to learn about, so you’re intentionally keeping the client’s goals from the experts. I’d say that 3/4 of the time, you also don’t know what the client’s goals are. Take from that what you will. - GROUPTHINK: By the time people become managers, they stop thinking critically about AlphaSights’ business operations. People that are successful in this role are ones that are easily manipulated, driven by fear, and don’t think much about what they are doing. If this sounds like you, you’ll succeed here. Associates that question existing procedures/the business model/ethics of the company are seen as threats, and will be fired. - NO CONCERN FOR EMPLOYEE WELLBEING: The company has no systems in place for mental health. This is shocking given the number of people that are struggling with their wellbeing while working at AlphaSights - the long hours, targets, and culture are all draining. Barista pop ups at the office are not enough. I am surprised that there hasn’t been a bigger movement to push back against how badly employees are treated here. It's not worth sacrificing your mental health to work at this company, trust me. IF YOU WANT AN INTELLECTUALLY STIMULATING JOB WHERE YOU ARE TREATED LIKE A PERSON NOT A NUMBER, DO NOT TAKE THIS JOB. YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING BETTER AND BE HAPPY, I PROMISE!!!
