I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at CarMax in Apr 2021
Interview
The process dragged for nearly 2 months with poor communication throughout. During HR screening call, the recruiter didn't know basic details about the role in question. At some point I received an automated rejection email (with an incorrect job title that I wasn't applying for). Politely emailed attempts to clarify that the process was in fact over were completely ignored by my HR contact there. I had to talk to my external recruiter to find out what happened.
Surprised at how unprofessional the process was given Carmax's reputation as a great employer. I felt there was very little respect for a candidate's time and energy. Not a good sign when someone is actually relieved they didn't get the job at the conclusion of your hiring process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They've been using the same case question for 5 years now, buying a plot of land before/after bridge being built. It's basically testing basic algebra and statistics.
I applied online. I interviewed at CarMax in Nov 2020
Interview
The interview started off easy enough but there was an extremely long wait just for a manager to see you. I guess the interview a ton of other people all at the same time. The questions were also very vague and cliche interview questions.
I received a text about a job position I had applied for. I was told to fill out an application and I would be called back for an interview. I filled out the information, then got an email like 3 days later. The email stated to contact CarMax, but didn’t send any contact information at all. I posted on their FB page and got a response to contact someone on email. I sent a reply to that department and called the person who originally sent me a text. The person I called acted confused and I couldn’t understand them. I then get an email like a week later saying I wasn’t picked for the position.
Don’t lie to people and say you want to do an interview and then say oh never mind we don’t want you. The process is obviously scattered and there’s no direct line of communication. It’s companies like this that make people not want to apply for jobs. I recommend staying away from this company.
