I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Kenosha, WI) in Jan 2019
Interview
It is a longer process than expected. It took about three separate interviews with three different people to get hired. It took about one week to get hired, for a special case quick hire. Overall, very good interviews and very nice people.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you think you'll be a good sales consultant?
Phone interview then face to face interview. The face to face consisted of normal sales interview questions such as your background in sales, why you want to work with people, what would you do in given situations, how did you deal with an angry customer and more like that. Then you had to pretend to sell a car to the interviewer.

Question 1
Was there ever a time where you had to deal with a customer that was angry with you and how did you handle it?
I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CarMax (Denver, CO) in Dec 2015
Interview
Phone interview followed by in person interview and role play selling a car. When you do the role play - shake hands, introduce your self, make eye contact, ask why questions, recommend a test drive or search nation wide inventory for a car. If you get to the part where they do a mouth swab drug test you're pretty much hired.

Question 1
They ask general interview questions, sales experience is NOT REQUIRED. After the phone interview they will schedule an in person interview. At the end of the in person they will take you to a role play followed by the drug test. If you don't make it to any of the stages I described, you didn't get the job.
