I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax
Interview
Online assessment. Math questions with limited time. Then phone call interview. half behavior/half case. The case is some math questions. You don't need to be very good at math. But think logically and know how to set the unknown will be helpful.
I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at CarMax (South Jordan, UT) in Aug 2019
Interview
First interview asked basic questions about why you want to work at Carmax, your background and 1-2 scenario questions around customer service or dealing with a conflict.
The second interview focuses on "tell me about a time" questions. These are directly related to the Carmax values for the position.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you took the initiative to learn something new? Why? What were the results?
I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax
Interview
It appears that CarMax is more interested in putting you in extreme circumstances that you’ll never be in as an employee as apart of their recruiting process. I took 3 assessments - one of which was timed - and had a phone case where I wasn’t allowed to use a calculator and wasn’t allowed to have a copy of the case (the whole thing is read to you). This process seems archaic and CarMax is probably missing out on really great applicants because they’re too focused on putting applicants under pressure than they are finding good people.
The man who conducted this phone interview with me had no personality at all and was extremely awkward to speak with which made me much more nervous than I probably should have been. CarMax should watch who they put on the phones because that was a disaster!
