Very Bureaucratic and Political

Pros

Some good teams to work in, chance to work with very good people.

Cons

Atrocious 1980s management, with weird favouritism and turf war games. Combines the worst of a small company with the worst you might expect from a large company. Slow bureaucratic processes and complete inflexibility from management, at the same time highly defective organisation in terms of general hr practices and basic services/benefits - you just can’t get any internal projects done, at least that was my impression.

Pros

cyber team has some smart people and is a generally nice, capable bunch with a really genuine, honest and hardworking team lead not draconian about you being in the office everyday - you can largely come and go as you please the anonymous pulse poll always made for amusing reading because you found out what your colleagues really thought of management if you have a line manager who has your back you can avoid being shoehorned onto projects that don't suit you

Cons

very cliquey how promotions are dished out is witchcraft. Some people flew through the ranks quite deservedly while others who were just as capable and vastly more experienced appeared to be held back pay structure was horribly flawed. I knew of people in the grade above me who were being paid a good bit less very few women or ethnic minorities in snr management massive employee churn many projects can be summed up as "death by powerpoint".

Pros

Great company culture and social aspects

Cons

- you get forced into roles that have nothing to do with your career ambitions - promotion path isn't concrete and the best way to secure a promotion is to be in with the partners - Focus areas lack disciplines and some are loosely named - currently over 50% of the workforce is on the bench and it has been this way for years now

Hello and thank you for sharing this feedback. It is true that a consultant does not "choose" his or her assignments at Wavestone. Staffing decisions combine different criteria: the client's request, the complexity and the stakes of the assignment, the availability of the consultants, their skills, their objectives and progression on the career path. Projects regularly involve cross-topics and cross-teams staffing enabling our consultants to work in different work environments therefore building knowledge, expertise and professional network quickly and easily. This reflects the Wavestone’s consulting silo-free model that is based on the combination of business, technology and functional know-how to better answer its clients’ needs. The career path, The Wavestone Horizon, is a shared tool within the whole firm. For any level of responsibility in a given role, the expected skills are defined and are the same for everyone. Each employee is accompanied by a Career Development Manager (CDM), whose responsibility is to direct them towards projects that will support their professional development on this pace and at their own pace.
