Pros

If you stay with the company you make friends with the people around you. There is the high turnover aspect but there's also the life long employees. Those are the ones that make it worthwhile. If you want to have career with this company prepare to be transferred to a different store. In store promotions do occur but sometimes opportunities don't arise as soon as you'd like and a transfer is the only option. Stay positive and make friends. It's a pretty fun place.

Cons

Politics! It's everywhere. If someone in a hugger position doesn't like you they can make life difficult for you. At least that's what I've heard. Other than that retail is pretty easy. Many tasks with impossible deadlines. Usually management lets stuff roll down hill. If they get chewed out by their manager then they pass it on. Good managers don't do that. A few at this location don't and a few do. It's a mixed bag.

Pros

You get a paycheck. If you are lucky enough to be taken on as a full time status, not just work full time hours, you have some perks like 401 and stock and benefits. Walmart doesn't like to hire full time employees they will keep you in the part time or worse temp category as long as possible. Promises from upper management mean nothing people. Telling you right now. Management is not your friend. It is a corporate machine and will do anything and say anything to get what they want and will ultimately throw you under the bus and use you as a scape goat if necessary. Look out for your self. Study up on the policies. You are your only advocate within this pyramid of corporate bullies. Everything looks nice at first but when you scratch the surface and really pay attention you can see the rotting corpse of what used to be a family oriented business.

Cons

If you want to be treated as a human do not work here. More often then not management doesn't notice you unless you did something wrong. So If you take pride in your work be prepared to be overlooked. If you think you should be treated with respect forget about it. I've seen and had a co-manager up in my face, in my personal space, yelling at me in front of other assistant managers. Don't bother telling the store manager or any others. They have rules and steps to follow so that its processed properly. They act the part but basically they allow and train them to use these techniques. Respect for the individual is dead. This is just a taste. I don't have all day to write. Sorry. Also, if you plan on staying in said company just know that they get rid of a lot of the older well paid employees to be replaced with temps and part timers so they have to invest even less in the employees. I know all these things because I was privy to a lot of back door talk. Just make sure your eyes are wide open. Walmart is not the company it used to be.

Pros

It's great experience to work and collaborate in big cross functional teams

Cons

The beauracracy is terrible. They appreciate mediocracy rather than innovative just damn good. People are actually offended by work that exceeds expectations. It is very hard to move up and get promotions, it's not clear, even with the new career roadmap against how people get their annual reviews.
