Pros

They offer employees a 10% discount on merchandise and allow employee health plan subscribers to purchase subscriptions for $5. There is also a modest profit sharing plan and a bonus based on 'shrink' numbers (that is how the real inventory of the store compares with what should be there).

Cons

The pay is low across all functional areas, although the sales floor and checkouts are the worst. Store managers receive a bonus based on store performance (profitability), but hourly 'associates' do not. Most assistant managers are ambivalent because of their own low pay and long hours, thus are not very good at motivating others.

Pros

Competitive pay and bonus potential. Busy environment, fast-paced. Always changing.

Cons

Lacking in communication with all levels and providing feedback. Too much opportunity for conflict among ranks and favoritism. Sometimes a very negative work environment. I saw too many double standards where the excessively numurous policies became tools to carry out personal agendas.

Pros

Wal-Mart was a fun environmet to work in, the management was usually understanding when you have family issues come up. The scheduling was pretty flexible. Cross Training was always available. The people that work there are great, almost like a family. Also the 10% discount helps with the grocery bills.

Cons

Management has their favorites and keeps them under their wing. The Management really does not like it when the "sales associates" tell them how they could change things so that they work better. penalized people for reporting harassment by other employees. Almost all of the departments are understaffed, people getting pulled off the floor to collect carts... then nobody on the floor to help customers.
