Pros

Excellent company benefits, a company I was proud to work for, colleagues largely supportive, co-operative and good at their job.

Cons

During 2013-4 the IT Department was eviscerated at the management level with about half the team taking voluntary or (mostly) forced redundancy following a restructure. You could argue (but should not assume) that's because they no longer had the appropriate skills, despite many of them having 20+ years service - however that would be a telling reflection of under-investment in their development over that time rather than any basic lack of competence. Or perhaps the changed expectations of them are wrong. Virtually all the affected staff who haven't taken early retirement have quickly found comparable jobs elsewhere. Staff were not given support to adapt to the new structure, it was considered easier to get rid of them - which is inconsistent with the caring image the company likes to project. And it's that hypocrisy that has hurt people the most.

Profits before partners.

Pros

Lovely people who I work with.

Cons

Terrible management. Branch manager only pops in once or twice a week. Other managers are barely even seen on a day to day basis. No leadership. I just guess what I need to do for the day when I go in as there’s never anyone around. The lights are dimmed most mornings to save money. The heating is off to save money. which makes it unbearably cold. Most of us have to wear 5+ layers. No bonus. No pay rises. No cheaper food anymore in dining room. Long term partners are on the same pay as new starters? Make it make sense! Now they’re changing all of our hours to not suit us to try and kick us out to save money. No benefits to be a partner anymore. All the company cares about is profit. No care for us or our needs.

Pros

None that I can think of.

Cons

Treated as a resource rather than a person, lack of organisation, dirty. I worked at Waitrose for nearly two years. I requested two days holiday to care for my mother (age 91), I was refused leave. I was forced to hand in my notice in order to look after my mother who sadly passed away during the time I requested as holiday. I would not recommend working for Waitrose Holsworthy to anyone.
