Cons
In my experience, product quality and ambition often didn’t match the expectations set internally and externally, which made it hard to feel proud of the output. Role and title structure felt outdated and inconsistent (e.g., film-production style titles), which sometimes created confusion around ownership, accountability, and career paths. Compensation was below market for my role and location, with minimal increases over 4–5 years regardless of performance ratings. The company’s public perception (and leadership reputation) made it awkward socially at times; I received negative comments from people outside work about Ubisoft and its executive direction. Ongoing uncertainty about reorganizations and potential layoffs created a persistent sense of insecurity. 1:1s were frequently focused on project status updates rather than personal development, coaching, or long-term growth. Career development and performance evaluation did not feel data-informed or transparent; expectations and progression criteria were unclear. Limited training and upskilling opportunities compared to what I would expect at a large publisher.
