Pros

-Unparalleled opportunity (there is no limit to what type of job you can hold) -See the world -Work with people that care. Great commraderie. -Retirement and pension are unbeatable (full health and dental, approx. 50% of retiring salary for the rest of your life) -Doing a job of significance and a job that matters -Great preparation for outside careers -Obviously recession proof -Govt provides unmatched benefits (full family health care, dental, vacation, etc)

Cons

-Very stagnant promotion structure within Officer ranks (time based, not merit based) -A fair amount of time away from home (could be considered a pro too, considering the locales you will visit) -Almost across the board, you have to move every 2-3 years for the length of your career

Pros

The navy has several great opportunities, and the benefits are endless. You get great pay and full medical and dental, etc. Each base has a bowling alley, golf course, gym, rec center, and more. If you're a student pilot, you get full training to be a pilot in the navy and either fly helicopters, propeller planes, or jets. It all depends on the needs of the navy, how well you do in flight school, and your preference.

Cons

Large variation in hours Many many hours of studying

Pros

Tremendous sense of pride serving and representing the United States of America. Obtain excellent leadership skills as well as on the job training. Other outstanding benefits include a steady income (including base pay, housing pay, sea pay, and other incentive pays), excellent medical / dental benefits for service members and their dependents, tuition assistance (TA), Post 9/11 GI Bill (fantastic benefit), Navy College Fund, world-wide travel to fasinating places, 30 days PAID vacation per year, VA Home Loan, pension after a minimum of 20 years of Active Duty service, low-cost life insurance, meet and maintain life-long friendships with fellow service men and women. Experience of a life time!

Cons

Like every other job, not every day in the Navy is great. The toughest part is being away from family when deploying overseas for 6 months.
