Pros

Decent work life balance, that's about it

Cons

Where to start.. You will work in shifts, 9 hours a day. It could be from 3 to 12 pm, 8pm to 4am or from 11pm to 7am. Say goodbye to evenings or any sort of a routine. The Bangalore office is basically a back office to the US and UK. As a "reporter" your main job will be to write up press releases issued by corporations. The learning curve is engaging to a point if you like to be in financial journalism. After that it's dull routine work that will eat at you slowly if you've ever wanted an intellectually engaging career in journalism. You will see minimal growth in the kind of stories you get to do because most of the interesting reporting is done by folks in the U.S. The people in Bangalore do the grunt work, the dull work, the basic thankless work for investor clients for a salary that's just about enough to cover basic expenses. Stay away if you can but take this job if you crave predictability and low stress above any sort of intellectual fulfillment or the desire to do more meaty stories and build sources. By the third, fourth quarter of earnings, as you stare into the abyss of the same old same old, I guarantee you will regret it

Toxic Atmosphere

Pros

Great benefits and work from home policy.

Cons

During my nearly 25-year tenure at TR, I observed a marked shift toward a highly toxic work culture in the final five years. The management structure has become increasingly bureaucratic, demonstrating a concerning disconnect with the core functions and objectives of their respective business units. There's a prevailing trend of phasing out highly skilled talent in favor of less experienced, lower-wage employees. This practice undermines the company's integrity and service quality. I would advise potential candidates to consider these factors carefully before joining.

Pros

The only pros that I can think of is that the name 'Thomson Reuters' looks good on your CV, so can help you get a better position elsewhere. Although, I'm not sure how long TR can live off their past grandeur.

Cons

Management have no direction, it changed quicker than the wind and we were always left to pick up the pieces. Senior Management is essentially a bunch of cowboys, who started working for the company when it was still FCBI straight out of uni, and have had no real management or business training. The lack of professionalism is unimaginable for anyone who has worked elsewhere. All company risk is put on the employer, as the vast majority of our pay was based on event commission. The events you were given were strongly based on favouritism, and often sexism, whereby some people continuously were receiving huge commissions (the main reason why they have stayed!) and others get nothing. The culture is toxic and full of bullies. You are expected to work well beyond contract hours, as it is the only way to attempt to make any commission. Next to no progression, people had to almost beg for any sort of promotion, and when they finally got the role, they were only offered £2-5K more despite a doubling in responsibility. The last 2 pay rises their initial offer was a 2% increase which was around £800 a year (given the low salaries to begin with).
