Pros

Pay is ok, nice colleagues.

Cons

In express stores, extremely busy and long shift hours of 9 hours + with only 30 mins break. Even if you close at 11pm you are expected to work again at 6am?? Staff are given a large amount of stock every day and majority of the time it is hard to manage, as well as a large number of whoosh orders coming in everyday. Staff in express stores need a much larger wage for the amount of work you have to do (stacking whilst on till, tobacco, lottery, evri parcels, whoosh, cleaning etc). Mentally and physically draining.

Pros

-Very good breaks compared to most companies- guaranteed break for shifts of more than 4 hours and 90 mins break for 9+hrs shift -Friendly colleagues generally -Very good pay if you are a young person, as all customer assistants paid the same no matter the colleagues age- was earning double the minimum wage when I was working there at 17 -Very accommodating to students who are only back for holidays- extremely easy to come back and work as a 'retained student' -Job is most ideal for people (especially school leavers and students) to use as a stop gap

Cons

-Can be poor management on occasions, especially when it comes to organisation -Poor pay if not a young person, as the pay is not that much above the adult minimum wage -Colleague discount only 10% (more on payday weekends)- only really worth it if you buy a lot from Tesco -Can be quite a cliquey work environment, though this depends on the colleagues and the manager -Very low chances of progression from customer assistant to manager as there's a lot of shop floor staff and not many management positions, with new managers often coming straight from other stores and often being the most socially 'popular' staff

Pros

Not many - nice people I suppose

Cons

Too many lifers who surround themselves with good people. Restructures ever 18 months means it's a culture of fear, as you are led to believe your role is constantly on the line
