Pros

Great foot in the door for retail management. Learn a lot about hard line retail. Good training if you seek it. Favoritism with being promoted. So just become the STL's friend. They do eventually recognize hard work with promotions. Benefits are some of the best in retail. The every=other weekend off thing is one of the best things about the job. What a perk!

Cons

Hours can be bad (mid shifts and 5 am shifts.)

Pros

Streamlined systems that work. Progressive thinking, always on the edge of new product and practices. Very HR compliant, requires team leaders and all leadership to teach and train. Probably the best team members and executives in any business. Very high energy company with great talent. My best friends are people I met while working at Target.

Cons

Absolutely no work life balace as an Executive. Upward mobility is there, but requires at least 55-60 hours a week, depending on position, up to 70+ hours a week. You cannot be successful at Target without sacrificing your personal life. At 34 I was one of the "oldest" executives in our district. After marriage and kids most executives move on to careers with a better work/life balance. Those that stay make alot of money, but really sacrifice. There is even an understanding about how common divorce is among Target Executives. Myself included.

Pros

The schedule is flexible, some positions are early, others are late. Easy to work around other responsibilities.

Cons

You really have to be a favorite to be able to move up within the company. New grads come in with no retail experience, never have worked with customers are all of a sudden in charge of you. Although the schedule is somewhat flexible, many times you have to be there at 5/6am or as late as 11/12pm way before the store opens or after it closes. Employees with families or kids cannot be at work that late, especially at Target. Other times, the pay is way to low and you are expected to pull way beyond what should be considered your own weight, to pick up others slack.
