Pros

I get to work on what I like, write my own tasks and work at my own pace. Generally people have been very helpful whenever I have any questions. Not a cut throat environment.

Cons

Growing pains is visible, unable to scale. Training docs go outdated so fast.

Great place for marketing

Pros

What you've read about Tableau's culture is true. This is the best place I've worked as a marketing person. Is it perfect? No but it's so much better than any other place. People are smart and creative and nice. They work hard and they care. The leaders are open and real. They're transparent. And they are good at marketing in their own right. Plus the product is well-loved by customers. You'll learn a lot here.

Cons

Growing and scaling pains for sure, some inflicted by new people who don't get it or junior people who haven't seen how bad it can be elsewhere, some from fast growth that's now slowing. As it's grown into a large group, mid-level people are losing some ability to be nimble and make decisions. Pay could be better for sure although the company tries to make up for it with stock and soft benefits like nice space, good kitchen and soon.

Pros

Friendly atmosphere which permeates from the top down. Nobody's ego appears to be getting the way of getting the job done. I get to work on cool stuff that regularly shows up in our big product demos. Despite hiring a ton of new people in the past couple years, company has managed to retain most of its older engineering workforce; they've all been very knowledgeable and helpful. This company throws the best parties. Tableau Conference is a blast; people inside and outside the company always seem genuinely excited about the product & seeing new features. This was by far the most generous compensation package I was offered out of three companies when I took the job. Don't know how it still compares, and the stock price took a huge hit this year, but still seems really good. Work-life balance is great compared to some other local software giants. I work a 40-hour week and have never taken flak for it.

Cons

Difficult for some in leadership to shake bad habits/practices they learned at Microsoft. Still not sure how we're going to complete with Power BI, which is cheap or free & good enough for a lot of our potential customers. Some of the build and test infrastructure wasn't ready for a giant influx of new people; that still slows us down.
