Toxic work environment

Pros

The job offered free food, and lack of supervision meant that the "on paper" limit of 1 sandwich per shift was not enforced.

Cons

The restaurant had two staff working at most given times. The staff were racist and homophobic, and the owner was totally apathetic and largely absent. Further, we were required to be available to work if someone came in wanting a sandwich during our breaks (meaning essentially that we did not get breaks), and yet we were unpaid for 30 minutes every day. This is illigal in BC.

Pros

Not a lot of bureaucracy. You are given autonomy to do your job. Good annual increase in salary.

Cons

Slow growth. No career advancement. No career planning.
