Pros

great company culture and sense of identity, great people throughout most of the organization, excellent training and customer focus, good work-life balance

Cons

shifting metrics and chasing numbers rather than long-term strategy, reluctance to embrace technology at the store level, pay and compensation are no longer competitive.

Pros

Benefits and flexible scheduling. There is a shift available for just about anyone. Competitive pay for the level of employment. Good environment to learn interpersonal skills. Also teaches you to interact with many different personality types and how to react in various situations. A place to learn and aquire good personnel managment techniques.

Cons

There is a large variance between stores in terms of growth potential. In some stores you might find a strong candidate promoted in the minimum time-frame (varies by individual), other stores it can take so long that the individual burns-out and leaves the company; it mostly comes down to the store manager and district manager, and how growth/development oriented they are. In my time with the company I have seen a collective ~30 years leave the company due to extreme delays in advancement.

Pros

First off, Starbucks is one of the only companies that I know of that offers part-time (minimum 20-25 hrs per week) FULL BENEFITS! They even offer tuition reimbursement, adoption fee help, smoking cessation therapy and if my memory serves me right, I believe they even cover one or two massages per year. Because they are open so many hours of the day they accept a crazy schedule (such as one of a college student). They are CLEAN and sanitary. They are very thorough in their training and in no time you will be a very competent barista, able to work at any coffee shop. You will receive a free pound of coffee or free box of tea every week you work there.

Cons

Starbucks is not a family owned business, it is a corporation and they want to make money. If that is a problem for you, don't even bother applying. You will be required to ask people's names and try and make connections with people. You will have to suggest a pastry or coffee or some merchandise with every order. You have to test all the coffees, BLACK. So if you aren't a coffee drinker, watch out, their coffee is strong without cream and sugar. Your tips aren't given to you on a shift by shift basis. All the tips are deposited every day and put into a weekly pot and then they are given to you based on how many hours you worked that week. For instance, if the tips totalled out to be $2.00/hr and you worked 20 hours that week, you would receive $40.00 that week for tips. Also, you are taxed on at least $.50 per hour for your tips on your paycheck.
