Pros

As with any retailer, the past 2 years have been difficult due to the economy and declining sales, and the subsequent pressures put on companies and their staff (layoffs, cutbacks, expecting a lot more of every person in every position, etc). You have the flexibility to make your own schedule week to week and balance work-life, but as with most DM roles, it's 50-60 hours per week average. It's what you make of it and really is manageable, and senior leadership respects your work-life balance. I've worked here many years and respect & dignity and professionalism is always in place, if not you won't last long.

Cons

Not many pros for being a DM these days, except be lucky you have a job. The gratitude is barely existent for making any of your numbers, and being under high scrutiny at all times. Any performance pay raise you get will be well below cost of living inflation (typically has been for many years, so that's no big deal) . The only thing looking brighter is that sales expectations are more realistic and more field leaders may actually see quarterly bonuses on a few occasions this year.
