Pros

Benefits are generally great. Above average annual leave with volunteer and family care leave available. Medical benefits have improved over the years. A very global organisation with exposure to a large network.

Cons

If you land in the wrong team, be prepared for your efforts to not be recognised, a toxic manager that can really hurt your career progression and subject you to doing busy work that is a waste of time and provides zero value for your learning, development and ability to contribute. It seems like external talent is valued more rather than nurturing loyal employees. Generally it seems like comp can be quite competitive if you’re entering the organisation as an external, but stay too long and you’ll find that it takes a lot to get promoted or a raise, and the criteria is not transparent at all. Internal mobility may be possible but depending on your division you may meet with a lot of friction and people trying to block your move.

Pros

Standard Chartered Bank is an excellent organization to work for, especially for professionals looking for stability, global exposure, and a strong corporate culture. The bank places a high emphasis on ethics, compliance, and governance, which creates a secure and trustworthy work environment. The leadership is professional and supportive, and teams are highly collaborative. There is a strong focus on employee development, learning, and upskilling through structured programs and real-world project exposure. Working with diverse global stakeholders provides valuable international experience and broadens professional perspective. Work-life balance is well respected, and the organization genuinely cares about employee well-being. The culture promotes inclusion, respect, and transparency, making it a comfortable place to grow and contribute.

Cons

Decision-making can sometimes take time due to structured processes, but this is understandable in a large global banking environment and helps ensure quality and risk management.
