Pros

Was one of the best International banks in emerging markets Decent compensation Strong performance and sales culture, overall good experience to learn at all levels Good international opportunities for talented staff Diverse leadership

Cons

-Leadership under the current CEO (since 2006) slowly eroded the culture of this bank. There was an emphasis to bring in people from the outside who really didnt have the experience, culture and the vision and changed the fabric of the bank. So many experienced hands have left proactively or through the process of many restructures. -The Wholesale Bank dominated for years, and now they are paying for this in the form of heavy credit losses which is affecting financial performance and creating uncertainty e.g. recent divestment of businesses acquired in the last 5-6 years. -You get a sense that nepotism works and that this is still a bank with some colonial mindset at the top -Poor career planning for staff on expat roles leading to uncertainty and disruption in professional and personal lives. -Does not reward staff who speak their mind or challenge management (in a positive way). There is pressure to conform. -Considerable pressure to deliver short term results which affects your long term performance. This also promotes unhealthy behavior in managers who tend to push hard for performance irrespective of external or market conditions.
