Pros

- Fantastic Co workers, like family - Gratis is great - Great for students - Work itself is fun - Get to know many brands - Get to meet lots of people who work for brands - Lots of education opportunities - Co workers become friends - There is lots of growth within each store - Great stepping stone as an artist, many brands look for Sephora World Experience for other positions, esp Kendo Brands

Cons

- Everyone started getting written up at my location for stupid or petty reasons - Not enough hours, hours get cut, yet new people get hired while girls who have been there 3+ years still cannot go FT - Micro Mangeing is out of control. You have someone in your ear at all times telling you to hurry up or step away from clients, when thats not always possible. Youre told to complete full face services, including product picking, skin prep and the application itself in 45 min. This is difficult when clients expect glammed out cut creases in this time period - No commision. Every other beauty MUA job pays much more. You dont always make bonus every month or quater - Stop using gratis as incentives, just PAY MORE - Stop hiring power tripping 20 year olds as managers - Leadership will have meetings with you in the middle of your shift and make you cry and expect you to go back on stage - I hate being on greet. If I wanted to be a store greeter I would work at wal mart. - Theft gets in the way of our bonus but not all stores have LP. We are not LP professionals and shouldnt having to do jobs that are not ours - Leadership shuts down any new ideas - I have been working in colour for almost 2 years and I am not CM certified yet. They keep saying they will but they wont. - Cuts hours and then we have no one in the floor so our sales are bad. - Fraudulent returns get in the way of bonus, so do Reseller returns. We need more authority to refuse returns - We cannot ask clients who use products in an un hygenic manner to leave, this means someone will try on six mascaras from the tube, we must DIF them - It was very nice for a while but changes in mgm at my store made me really sad. Lots of girls are quiting, ones whove been there 2-4 years.

Pros

Great work/life balance, employee discount

Cons

Management is all over the place, Does not seem to care about their staff. Very little hours, management PICKS FAVOURITES, make promise's they can't keep, was told there were full time opportunities... and never moved.

Pros

A lot of different routes for growth and development, both in store and within the company as a whole. At the right location, the work environment is positive/fun to be in. Lots of paid education workshops.

Cons

I can't talk for all locations but I can speak for mine. My career with Sephora started out great, but ended on a complete 180. There's no sense of work/life balance whatsoever. Repeatedly scheduled to close and then open the next morning. Schedule was posted on a Sunday night for the following week on a regular basis. I (and others) would request days off and be denied the time off, and then scheduled for those days. But when I would ask someone else within the same role they were free and able to take my shift. Making it feel like it was intentional to be spiteful. One thing that happened that was literally illegal; A cast member that had a severe leg injury (ongoing over the past 2 years) came to work today LIMPING with her leg in a brace while being the only colour consultant because she was told she wasn't allowed to call in sick because the store needed her. Meanwhile another cast member was allowed to call in because she was hungover. Favouritism was VERY common at my store. It wasn't even subtle. Some cast members were treated a lot better and leadership would turn a blind eye to time theft ie hanging out backstage talking while not on break, black clouding, ignoring headset when there were callouts for clients needing assistance, given first choice for gratis and much more. One thing that I physically saw happen that disgusted me and lost my trust with leadership was a raffle contest during an event and a lead drew out a name at the end of the hour to win a piece of gratis, read the name and PUT IT BACK and drew out another name and then called out the second name as the winner for the hour, who just so happened to be a friend of his outside of the store. For myself and many others at my store that confided in me, we struggled with development at my location. There was so much talk about how our leadership team is passionate about development and wanted to see us grow within the company and 'would do anything to help us get there' but when it came down to ACTUALLY helping with our goals and setting us up for success... Nothing. From the first time I asked to be Custom Makeover certified to actually getting there it took over a year. The regular timeline for CM certification is 3 months... And I wish that was where it ended. So I asked my store specialist to start my CM certification process and was told it would happen asap, I was given a booklet and heard nothing for a month. I asked my store's Senior Artist (Who for those of you not employed at Sephora, she is in charge of the certification process in store) and wasn't even aware that I was supposed to be getting certified. so fast forward 6 MONTHS later of me going back and forth between reminding leadership that I wanted to be certified, excuses on their part and very minimal progress with the process and I was told that I wasn't 'allowed' to be certified. Had to go to the district manager to deal with the situation because it had gotten so out of hand. Finally was set up with what I needed to be certified and then once I was ready for the actual certification, they kept pushing the date back for 3 months coming up with every excuse under the sun, and then holiday season came around and it was conveniently 'too busy to schedule'. and then over a year later.. I was certified in February. Such a long process drawn out to the point where I almost didn't even want it anymore because what was the point if they really wanted so badly to stop me from doing it ? And after the long, tedious process was finally over with... there was no raise. Not even a few cents. When I asked about a raise being given, which I THOUGHT I was entitled to considering it's an elevated position with more responsibility. Fair right? Nope. Apparently it's considered a 'privilege' to be a certified artist and not a promotion deserving of a pay raise. Clearly my location has a lot of issues that really need to be dealt with that are being severely ignored. After going through 3 store directors in a year ... something needs to be done. As for myself, I'm off to a different company that is willing to pay me what I feel my work is worth, and where I feel appreciated.
