Pros

They pay is better than most retailers, it is a great place to start as a makeup artist, their training is hands down the best I've ever heard of for a company like that, bonuses are nice, just a really fun environment to work in in general, not to mention the fantastic free stuff. This really is a great company to work for, they do so much with the changing times, and everything pushes the stores and cast forward

Cons

They promote "hire from within" but that's not really the case; they will promote someone less qualified just so they don't have to pay them more; politics; there is room for growth but it will take you a long time to see any thing come from that; mgmt is never on the floor, always say their busy with work pertaining to the store, but if you walk to the back to get something they are always talking on the phone to family members, playing on facebook, or chatting it up, while the rest of the store is struggling to get to every client, and then the blame is placed on the cast for low sales or upset customers; not very professional, scolding cast when they do something wrong like children, also make cast deal with difficult upset clients when it should be a managers job; and communication is horrible as far as letting cast know the contests and upcoming events

Pros

1.Values based company(work life balance, teamwork, passion for clients, initiative, etc) 2. Gratis 3. Company invests thousands of dollars in your development( training that includes airfare, meal and hotel accommodations if traveling) 4. Fun environment where the majority of fellow teammates are very vested in sephora's culture. 5. Lot's of growth potential from leadership, educator roles, and PRO Team. 6. You don't have to be licensed to work at Sephora as long as you are passionate about learning! You learn so much from experience and client interactions! There is NO WAY that as a makeup artist in school that you would have the opportunity to work on 60+ faces a day! Plus with different skin tones, concerns, shapes, etc. 7. Perfect for product junkies that just want to play with new products, experiment with colors, and SECRETLY shop while working on clients........ all day long! ;) 8. NON COMMISSION based. Team goals and bonuses. Monthly sales bonus and quarterly service bonuses. The highest level in sales bonus is like 25% of your gross monthly income!

Cons

1. Gratis is awesome when you are a top performing cast member winning all the contests, but you definitely don't get as much gratis as a member of leadership. 2. Every store is different. Make sure that the store you are looking to get hired at has a solid team. ESPECIALLY the leadership team. The leadership team you work with could make or break your experience with the company. Become a frequent client before applying at the location. Maybe set up a makeup appointment to have your makeup done so you can hash it up with the makeup artists about how they like their job. Talk to more than one person about it. There is always someone that is a bad egg on THEIR way out so their opinion may not be the ONLY one you want. 3. Growth will be limited if you are all talk no walk. You have to SHOW you want it and ask for what you need. It is not always easy to get time with leadership to develop. So ask for things that you can do to grow. 4. Clients can be very challenging! Literally. If you don't know the answer you better find someone that does and QUICK! They may eat you alive. 5. If you plan on being a makeup artist DO NOT pursue leadership. You will not do both. You will just be a leader. NOT a makeup artist. Go the route of PRO Team or Beauty Studio.

Pros

The training is absolutely amazing, the free products per years is fantastic (thousands of dollars worth of free products), job advancement is quick for those interested, etc.

Cons

The pay is mediocre, the sales goals seem high so bonus has been tough this last year, there is really only advancement for managerial positions, full time hours are around 32.
