Pros

I love the access that we have to a wide range of products and brands. The little bit of education I have received from the company has inspired my inner researcher even more. I love to help others navigate through the store and make informed decisions when it comes to the interest that they have in certain products. There is always something to do whether its helping customers, checking out new products to keep yourself updated, CLEANING and stocking, etc. Opportunity to sample products to have a better understanding of their benefits which helps you teach others and sell. Sephora inside JCP employees work ALL worlds which is so helpful in making well rounded cast members.

Cons

The pay isn't the best, in my opinion, especially with having over 10 years of customer service experience - I know my work ethic and experience is worth more than $10/hr. It is more than minimum wage but I have a degree in Merchandise Marketing, therefore I feel that its appropriate to expect a bit more. My manager tends to micromanage (which can be extremely annoying when you are older than your manager and have more education and experience), she talks to employees as if they aren't capable of making wise decisions, and plays favoritism with employees and customers that aren't "fairer skinned" or "wealthy" looking. (ex. If I am helping a woman of color with a ColorIQ match or something my manager will hover for a few minutes and then go on and do something else, however, if I am helping a fair skinned woman then she will hover and butt in to the conversation and usually find a way to pull the customer away from me) The training was inconsistent, I had to learn alot on my own, and some employees are given opportunities to do CM (Custom Makeovers) while others are completely looked over. ***with this particular CON, I must say that I am a very verbal employee and I like to make my goals known from the beginning. I expressed that I was interested in working in the Skincare Education world and have recently expressed that I would like more Color Education training because my makeup skills have improved so much (self taught). I am now the only dark skinned employee (when I started there was an AA lady working there but she left for a different opportunity and a aspiring makeup artist who is biracial quit because of the discrimination, favoritism, and overall unprofessional behavior that goes on at our location. The scheduling is inconsistent and my manager is disorganized and forgetful. (ex. I was hired on PART TIME (not seasonal) with another young lady and we were told that we were going to receive a uniform before holiday. Fast forward 3 weeks ago, the young lady that was hired on with me told me that she was told that she could expect her uniform soon but that I wasn't getting one because I am just working as seasonal but was told not to tell me that. 1. Its very unprofessional to gossip. 2. If she wanted to change my employment status from Part Time to Seasonal why wasn't that communicated to me and why was I interviewed for the Senior Education Consultant position? (feelings were crushed because I work hard and am still very unappreciated). I have been looked over for two months of Gratis at this point. The one time I did receive Gratis, my product bag was missing 4 products that everyone else received in their bags. I know this because you have to check mark everything you received on this list and sign it. Mine was the only gratis bag that was shorted on products.

Thank you for this well-thought out review! Sephora Inside JCPenney cast members are actually employed by JCPenney, not Sephora. You share a lot of great pro's and definitely some concerning opportunities, so I'm sure the team at JCPenney will want to know more. We will pass along to the appropriate contact at JCPenney!

Pros

It's a great learning environment with a lot of direct brand training. Gratis is also a huge bonus! No commission so less pressure on selling with more of an emphasis on getting to know your client and finding what is truly the best fit for them. Can definitely be a fun environment with the right team!

Cons

All boils down to Store Director, there are some great ones that make the store and fun and successful place to work and others that are completely out of touch with store practices. There should be a more tangible way to measure the success of SD's as that can affect the entire store.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to share your experience working at Sephora. I love how you mentioned that our decision to stear clear of a sales commission not only alleviates pressure on our cast, but truly allows us to best serve our client in an authentic and meaningful way. It is because of cast members like yourself with PASSION for our client that makes us a successful company. Thank you for all that you do to make Sephora a great place to work. And please know we take your feedback to heart. -Calvin

Pros

The discount on products is always a great thing. If you are very interested in skincare, makeup or fragrance then this is the place to be.

Cons

I feel as if a it of people want to be in charge. There are very few employees that are African American.
