management does not care about the workers and non-management is often show disdain and disrespect. even strong efforts by employees (and contractors) goes by without reward -- even in the form of verbal affirmation many times. I know that employees have been threatened with firing because of things that middle management told them to do. Others have been called names by their manager because they were Jewish. The only way to get ahead is to be a brown noser. People who work hard and really get the job done are not rewarded with promotions unless they are also doing things to specifically impress middle management; in other words, the ones who suck up get promoted.

Very hierarchical, not much growth potential, extremely political work environment. There is no penalizing scheme for poor performer. Some people just ride along the tide and get by doing nothing.
