2.) Some of the best HR practices I have seen in the industry. BTW, I am not the only one who swears by it. A bunch of my friends from ST who are working in other orgs. regularly praise the HR practices at ST.

1.) I think it is more of an industry issue that there is absence of structured product management practices which was evident at ST also.
There are numerous training programs for employees to help them improve on technical and behavioral know-how. The career path choice is however not left to the employee.
Cons
The company is separated into different groups and teams. It is very hard to move from team to team and the scope of teams is very narrow, forcing one to become a domain specialist which is okay if you want to be one.
