Pros

Benefits are very good, most people think you work at a personal resort, unlimited sick leave, your own personal office, on site health care, on site gym, 10%+3% 401k profit + match,

Cons

Too many people without a connection to reality, people who have never worked very hard, most people think you work at a personal resort, cafeteria is okay at best, Goodnight is a quiet megalomaniac, pretty conservative culture, daunting product set to learn- many of which barely sell, big disconnect between sales and R&D, they have too many sales people with too little opportunity to allow most of them to make quota

SAS Needs to Grow Up

Pros

The employee benefits are amazing. There are chances for growth and development.

Cons

Very poor administration policies. Employee performance reviews are not done. Non technical training is disorganized. Much of the creativity in SAS is stymied based on how middle management believes the CEO will perceive the idea. Submitting an idea that runs contrary to the immediate manager's opinion can be dangerous. Additionally, many employees are held responsible for cost issues while accounting information was too closely held to be useful. SAS' approach to the international market is often short sighted.

Pros

SAS' commitment to work/life balance is unmatched in this area. They are trailblazers in this arena and continue to be at the top of the best places to work. SAS is particularly good for employees with families.

Cons

Unless you're making software, your job is not guaranteed. Dr. Goodnight is very focused on numbers--you're either making him money or costing him money. If you're the latter, consider yourself in trouble. You better bring something substantial to the table if you're in a non-revenue making department (particularly marketing). SAS is also very focused on benefits for employees with families. Young professional, particularly those with no kids, may find that the benefits gloss over you a bit. As a private company, you're not going to get rich at SAS. SAS is the kind of place to look for once you're ready to settle down with your family.
