Pros

- Founded on good principles. - Not big enough yet so you are not just a number. - Uses interesting technology and likes to embrace new industry trends and standards. - Excellent agile principles (almost) - Product is part of a global good enterprise, which is healthcare. - Opportunity to grow if you are up to it and the price it will cost. - Global culture and likelihood of traveling. - Good benefits. - Nice activities every quarter. - Opportunity to attend seminars and events even outside your local office's country. - Nice intra company activities like poker nights. - Lots and lots of free food and treats.

Cons

- Too many managers. - The company knows where it wants to be but in terms of technology and overall architecture it doesn't really know what they are doing. They improvise and react too much rather than consolidate knowledge. - Things are way too secretive. - Communication is not clear in a healthy way at any level. - Poor decisions regarding legacy applications which translates into frustration and lack of motivation for engineers. - Promotes an environment for incompetent people to climb up the corporate ladder. This creates a negative feedback loop effect where new ambitious employees cover up for older incompetent ones, effectively shielding the real problems from outside departments/locations. On the other hand if you are more concerned about long term career growth than actual valued work this place is a good fit. - People are mostly promoted for political reasons or by merits when their interests align more closely with those of their direct manager. - People from different departments don't talk to each other effectively. Too much confusion over decisions. - This company has a very powerful legal muscle which can get you "legally" fired without giving you a chance for a real due process. If you are someone who doesn't like to compromise your principles, beware, This has actually happened more than once. - Too many project managers who inadvertently obstruct the agile process. Mostly manager's fault I think. - Some managers are not at all qualified to manage which provokes some teams to be micro-managed and with low morale. Fortunately there are other teams with good managers. It's a matter of luck.

Pros

*Competitive compensation, especially considering its presence in the life sciences industry. *Great people to work with. *Amazing history.

Cons

*Since the acquisition by Dassault Systems, Medidata's technology and processes have regressed. *A heavy reliance on in-house solutions has led to subpar tools and systems. *Mandatory in-office work, temperature regulations, and reductions in bonuses and compensation increases have negatively impacted employees. *Leadership is plagued by infighting, with a focus on politics and gossip over productivity and company growth. *Internal mobility is practically nonexistent, with managers having the authority to block employees from seeking new opportunities within the company. *The company faces increasing competition from industry giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Palantir, and we struggle to remain competitive alongside them. *Lack of transparency in decision-making, favoritism, and the distribution of handouts to select leaders have created a toxic work environment. *Dassault Systems has inserted their people into key roles at Medidata since they bought us. *The culture of having a US tech company with a France-headquartered company doesn’t result in productive conversations or interactions.

Pros

Great mission. Outside of the leadership layer, a diverse employee population well at least while I was there. (Generational, thought, age, sex and ethnicity compared to many other technology companies I have worked for.) Work that's quite cerebral. (Only if you're not in the HR department.)

Cons

Nothing negative about the company that acquired Medidata Solutions rather, a lot of the turmoil is a result of new leadership and the management layer they have been brought in to fill in for the fact that the Co-Founders have moved into different roles within the management layer of the acquiring company. No longer software product focused. Heading towards becoming simply a contract research organization. Or maybe some clone of the companies that the new management have come from. Obnoxious behavior by new leadership. Especially on the Software end of Medidata's practice. Certain leaders need Executive Coaching. Very smart people but they have no sense of self nor clue as to what they project to their employee base. Even if internally they don't have it in them to be humble, personable or empathetic they need to at least try to feign impeccability. Outsourcing technology. HR leadership is either the personal police force of leadership or they are there to rubber stamp any and all decisions. Can't blame them since they are protecting their jobs. Also, HR doesn't contribute to revenue so not much can be expected from a department that serves at the pleasure of leadership or department heads who actually make money for the company. Not saying this to offend anyone but this is simply a fact. You can do mental gymnastic to prove me wrong but show me the money (not savings but profits (new money)). Turnover (as a result of bad management even before The Great Resignation). Lack to resources for HR.
