Pros

Good health benefits, some respectful/skillful/helpful engineers who are willing to share their knowledge, encourage a good learning environment (book club / toast master meetings during lunch time), good tuition reimbursement, a lot of opportunities to build a career if willing to relocation, organized team environment, get a bigger view about its business, meet different people with different talents.

Cons

Most of the time, no communication between the managers and engineers. Promote the lazy workers and lay off the good ones. Some employees play golf or go home to watch football games or hang out with friends in restaurants during office hours ! Managers' response: there is nothing they can do about it. Promote them and reward them for doing nothing. Trust me, I swear this is all true. Some employees are relatives: parents/children, husbands/wives , cousins... Nothing wrong with employee referral programs. But the company tends to keep those relatives of the top management and get rid of the others. Promotion is based on relationship not performance. You work hard, but get a basic rating. Those who don't work, get a successful rating. Unfair ! Not surprise to see engineers / managers yelling at each other in offices ! Most people are not team player and don't have people skills.

Pros

Working at Lockheed Martin is like having a part-time job, with full-time pay. I've been there for over 4 years, and have never, ever worked more than 40 hours a week. As a software engineer, you have enormous discretion over when/where to work. Since I can get the job done quickly, I probably make it to the office for only 5-6 hours a day. Combined with the 9/80 schedule, it's like having 3-day weekends all the time. The work can be interesting at times, especially since you are working with complex electronic systems.

Cons

The technology is older than at most Silicon Valley companies, so don't expect cutting-edge research/development. Some of the buildings don't have windows, so that sucks too. Also, most employees are pretty old.
