Great place to start a career

Pros

The best reasons would be the career mobility, being able to work in many industries within the same company and being able to work all over the country/world. The pay and benefits are reasonably good. I am happy with my level of responsibility and rate of promotion.

Cons

The upper management is very very removed from the "worker bees". There are many layers of management and it is possible to get lost in the crowd. Your direct manager makes a big difference in the quality of job you end up with. If they are stickler for all of the corporate policies the job might become unbearable. I am in the fortunate position to have a manager that understands how important the people are.

Pros

Large company with lots of work to do which helps with job security. The benefits are good but could be better. The atmosphere between co-workers is nice and makes it a nice place to spend a third or more of your day. The flexible hours are nice but management takes advantage of it and "requires" employees to flex around appointments to save on personal and sick time.

Cons

Large company where it seems there are the chosen few and the rest are just employees. They cater to the new employees just out of college and seem to forget about the mid-career employees that are also looking for career advancement and professional development.

Pros

It is an exciting industry for engineering. We have every other friday off, good benefits and vacation. There is an internal focus on maturing talent to develop the workforce. There is a very high level of job security.

Cons

There are many long projects so it is more difficult to work on diverse projects throughout your career. Also the reward system of this industry is based on experience (time at company) more so than performance.
