Pros

nothing. The best thing I did was leave.

Cons

I do not recommend staying at Lidl for an extended period of time. The team I worked with was small and close-knit, which was a positive aspect of the job. However, my experience with my line manager was less favorable. They often displayed an egotistical attitude and became frustrated if tasks were not completed to their exact expectations, sometimes accusing me of making excuses or not being proactive, even when the work seemed insignificant. While the option to work from home (WFH) is a benefit, I advise against overexerting yourself for this company. Advancement opportunities appear limited despite claims to the contrary, particularly for those not in analyst or senior manager roles. I noticed a preference for assigning challenging tasks to assistants, while others were promoted more readily. Additionally, if you do not speak a second language, you might feel less regarded. There's also a noticeable aversion to American labor politics, which could impact the company's future. Promotional meetings often felt repetitive and lacked clear direction, making them long and exhausting. Similarly, presentations were highly scrutinized to ensure perfect slide displays, but these skills may not be transferable to other roles. I suggest considering Lidl as a temporary opportunity rather than a long-term commitment. For young professionals, it can be a place to learn new skills, but it may not be the best place to grow your career. The best part of my job was leaving. Good Riddance

Pros

Opportunity to travel, work with amazing people, switch departments to make a career change, decent benefits

Cons

Since Save a Lot “leadership” has been hired into lidl, they have ruined the company and are on their 5th round of layoffs. Congratulations for wrecking the entire business! The executives in the company have no idea what they’re doing (especially HR) and keep around useless board advisors, but fire the main talent. Most of the managers are horrible. Sinking ship

Pros

-Salary and benefits were good (I got like 4 raises without being promoted and several bonus checks) -I got to travel and live abroad expense free -Company car (some employees) -Temporary company housing was amazing -Coworkers were cool for the most part -When they switched to full time telework after the pandemic, I was much happier

Cons

-Lack of diversity -No regard for work life balance. God forbid you have kids and a family at home that you would like to spend time with -Leadership was a revolving door -5 different CEOs during the 8.5 years I was there -My department changed management so often, can’t even remember how many there were -Every time there was a new manager, there was a new direction -I redid the same project over and over like every year -Too many people from abroad given leadership roles and other roles that could be filled by Americans (who probably would do a much better job) -They kept trying to force us to operate the company like they do in Germany which obviously makes no sense whatsoever -Systems were outdated and hosted in Germany - a hot mess -Everything that we did had to be approved by the “International” HQ in Germany -They made so many poor decisions, which is crazy when you consider how long they’ve been around (leading to the closing of several stores) -To insult an injury, they literally lied to us about how well the company was doing at the end of 2022 and then laid off 200 employees 2 months later -People were quitting left and right and instead of doing something about it, they would just dump the work on the remaining employees
