Pros

Get to see how larger corporation operates. Good benefits and pay. People seem happy about working there. Learned a lot about how decisions are made and how a consensus is built with many different interests being involved. Many opportunities internally available. People there were generally easy to get a long with.

Cons

Hard to get a lot done without building a full consensus which can be challenging. Long hiring process, but once you are cleared to get hired it happens quickly. Not a ton of recognition for projects completed, and there was a lot of waiting to get things signed off on in order to move forward.

Pros

Liberty Mutual provides a level of security that is now rare in the marketplace - as long as you are doing a good job! There are plenty of challenging work opportunities and people are generally open and friendly.

Cons

management disciplines are weak, more emphasis on process rather than on the skills (or lack of them!) of the individual would be welcome and would result in less fires to fight

Pros

Liberty Mutual is a growing company, already in the Fortune 100. They hire a lot of very knowledgeable people, yet work to promote from within. They tend to treat their employees as partial stakeholders rather than just those tasked with the work. As demonstrated year after year in their employee opinion surveys, Liberty appears to make a sincere effort in responding to any employee concerns. This attention leads to higher employee morale, more projects being completed on-time and on-budget, and results in better results and better customer service. Liberty also goes out of their way to help provide a comfortable work/life balance, through ample and flexible vacation time, and even flexible scheduling day-to-day.

Cons

Liberty Mutual is a rather large company, and as typical with larger organizations, change is typically slow and sparse. Being a corporation - and much more significantly an insurance company - requires a good deal of standards and compliance. While Liberty does an excellent job keeping in compliance, the effort sometimes makes even the simplest jobs frustratingly difficult.
