This is a great place to work as an engineer if you enjoy working on interesting problems and contributing to science.

Cons

Things are set up such that people lead projects based on science accomplishments and not based on project management skills. Funding agencies don't seem to understand how to fund sustainable software

Very diverse and active research environment. Highly capable and respected colleagues. Great connections.

Cons

Commute is not easy. Lab plans to charge employees for parking. Compensation competitive for DOE labs, but not so much competitive compared to Silicon valley.

very nice environment. They really care their research. Lots of student and postdoc who are willing to help each other.

Cons

inconvenient if your lab is in another building and you need to walk uphill. Some equipment are really old.
