Pros

KPMG offers an environment that allows an individual to grow and learn at an accelerated pace. In addition, the individuals that make up KPMG are driven and hardworking; while still able to make the workplace fun and exciting. KPMG is a great place to start a career in business even if your long term goals do not involve public accounting. The amount of information and technical experience you learn is unmatched. There is always someone willing to help you with a problem or teach you a new skill. I am proud to be a KPMG employee. KPMG is a great place to work!

Cons

Working in public accounting requires longer work days during certian parts of the year, and anyone interested in working for any of the Big 4 firms should be aware of that. While at times the days can be long it is important to remember that they only occur during certain parts of the year, and the learning opportunities during that time are priceless.

Pros

KPMG invests heavily in professional development, including training for technical and soft skills. Projects provide individuals with experience that is valued in the marketplace. Senior managers and Directors (not partners) have more flexibility in their schedules than the staff. Benefits are good and in-line with the other Big 4 firms.

Cons

Work-life balance seems to be just lip service. Those that achieve work-life balance are rarely rewarded at review time. Those with no life and more than 100 percent utilization typically get much higher review ratings than those with families and kids that achieve respectable utilization. By that same token, Senior Managers or Directors that have work-life balance are perceived as lacking passion or being lazy by the partners. Senior Managers and Directors either move up or out after about 5 years because of this.

Pros

Working in IT , you get exposure to very high visbility projects. The IT staff are wonderful, helpful and are very knowledgeable. You can get your teeth into a lot of good technologies working at KPMG. The culture is flexable when it comes to working hours, its a matter of getting the work done on time. The benefits are non existent, but the salary for a lot of staff is above the market rates. Working environments are normally clean and well maintained. Staff of certain levels do get a yearly training budget that he or she is free to choose.

Cons

IT Directorship do not listen to employees at any level. The IT directors dont come from an IT background and hence make huge decisions regarding IT which are almost always bad. They totally refuse to communicate with senior managers in IT...... for some reason its not in their culture. There is a huge waste of money in the IT sector for little benefit. There is a constant reorg in IT which never seems to work. From the very senior level there is a finger pointing culture when things go inevitability wrong, hence the constant reorgs. The IT staff usually have to complete a lot of tasks undercover out of the view of the directorship. There is no hope of promotion for anyone that is IT or customer focused.
