Pros

It's great for your resume. The company is very large and diversified. As a consultant, you are exposed to many different opportunities and client situations. The experience is invaluable. The networking opportunities are endless.

Cons

There is to much bureaucracy. It is very hard, if not impossible, to change jobs. You basically have to quit and come back. This also holds true for a significant pay change (>10%). The executives seem to be the 'untouchables', providing no perceived value to the working class. The direction of the company is never made clear.

Pros

There are some top notch technical people at IBM and in general, my coworkers are competent and pleasant to work with.

Cons

IBM Microelectronics' glory days are in the past. It lost its technological leadership years ago and it has long been a second class semiconductor manufacturer. As IBM continues to be less and less a hardware company and more and more a services/software company, its days as a semiconductor manufacturer seem numbered. Working for IBM in general is a cold, dehumanizing experience. As an employee, you are a piece of office equipment to be surplussed when business needs change or when there is a business downturn.
