Pros

Usually great co-workers and technically, some of the best in the industry IMO. Often interesting projects that allow you to greatly expand your knowledge in many, many fields.

Cons

Incompetent senior management that has restricted first line managers to the extent they are glorified team leads. Everything, every decision, every raise, every bonus, every schedule is micro-managed by senior managers. The first lines are just talking heads touting the company line when you know very few believe any of it. That and that fact that every year, senior managers figure out a way to take something from the employees, vacation, raises, promotions, retirement, you name it. Fire Randy McDonald (HR VP) first, he seems to take particular joy in sticking it to the employees every year.

Pros

Exposure to large projects and early exposure to new products and technologies. The pay is industry average, and the entire experience can be heavily influenced on your immediate management; this is good and bad. Having experience at IBM may be viewed as desireable by future employers. There are lots of opportunities for professional and personal networking.

Cons

Little personal attention given to skills development. Preoccupation with Billable utilization over other important commitments. Getting answers to client questions could be difficult at times, with the client sometimes getting 2 different directions from 2 separate Service areas within GS.

Pros

Good learning, excellent options for advancement. There are a multitude of online and in-person training opportunities that build skill sbeyond immediate job requirements. IBM also has general philosophy of growth through experience, encouraging employees to advance through taking roles in other business units over the course of their career.

Cons

Can be very beaurocratic. Siloed business units challenge company's ability to work in unilateral direction. Many legacy employees overly reliant on conventional ways of doing business can retard real growth and internal innovation. Size of the company is an advantage from a personal benefits standpoint also interfere with capacity to employ new thinking.
