Pros

Have a reference with an IT leader on your resume.

Cons

Bureaucracy, no respect for the employee, no straight talk, the stockholder has all the rights. All the raises seem to go with the younger recruits( less than 10 years) and the more senior people don't get much. IBM considers once an employee is hooked, there is no need to give more than needed. If you are a sales rep, understanding your sales plan and how much you will get paid is rocket science. IBM seems to manipulate the figures and raising the targets beyond reason so you get paid what they want you to get paid. All this trickles down to "save as much as possible for the stockholder".

Pros

Some residual prestige associated with the name. I honestly thought I could find more to say than this, but I can't.

Cons

*Poor executive management, largely there to maximise personal gain before leaving. Most do not believe 'the strategy' will work and don't care. *Cowardly managment chain, not prepared to challenge obvious stupidity or without the stomache/dedication for a fight. Many are just trying to get in as many paydays as they can and have also lost belief. *Hard-nosed, naval gazing HR who churn out unpopular and irrelevant -initiatives, hence consuming even more of the precious time which employees no longer have.. *Pervasive self preservation rather than team co-operation to serve the customer. *Tick sheet/ call centre/low cost centre mentality, even where totally inappropriate, leading to 'hidden' extra costs to solve problems *Broken and massively discredited performance appraisal system, now almost completely hijacked for other purposes.. Professional judgement, constructive challenge and considered 'risk taking' suppressed.

Pros

Work at home, free time to search a job in another company !! (But very long hours, include evenings and week-end when projects/deals must be signed).

Cons

Low salary, no benefits, short term management without skills and not paying attention to their employees skills and development.. The company strategy is questionable. Employees motivation is very low, employees don't see any perspective. Most staff aged 52+ years old are just here to wait for retirement. That makes me sick.
