Pros

HSBC Group is a great global company.

Cons

Card Services division in Salinas is awful. Morale is at absolute lowest. Group is not committed to card business in U.S. Senior Management cannot be trusted. Hypocrisy and bureaucracy at every turn. Only growth opportunities are if you are willing to go international

Pros

Large organisation, better work-life balance than in other investment banks, pay is OK, though never on the high end, well improved brand in recent years.

Cons

Lack of communication between senior and junior staff, complete ingnorance of junior's problems and requirements. Room for improvement in communication between different business units. Careless towards clear career progression planning and feedback / reviewing. Not very friendly atmosphere generally.

Pros

Great company that is creating inroads in the Asian Markets. If you would like short term international assignments, this mught be a great company to explore. HSBC is trying to grow the banking business in the US, card business is a drag - but that have put a strong front, growing the private label and parts of the subprime business. Working in those areas will be fun. Strong encouragement of work life balance, remote work etc.

Cons

Strong Asian community in the Risk Department in cards. One risk manager managing the Union and General Motors portfolio has bad rep with high turnover. Try to avoid him if you can. In general very hiearchial organization. Tons of bureaucracy - getting a computer could take couple of months.
