Pros

Innovation, career opportinities within the company, sense of purpose, pride in products, working with very smart and passionate people, compensation and benefit package is hard to beat.

Cons

Current economic climate and change in leadership resulting in many reoganizations, job insecurity. The comapany is so large that there are many bureaucratic processes and effective communication is difficult. Culture does not reward honesty and open communication. Maintaining 2 US headquarters and dual leadership in many areas did not allow the creation of a single corporate culture in the US.

Pros

I still feel that GSK offers the best products in their respected classes, and that makes it easy to sell a product and be proud and able to sleep at night. I never feel like I am persuading a doctor to do something that is not the best possible treatment. Aside from products, the health benefits are great, and you start with 3 weeks vacation plus year end shut down.

Cons

I never feel like my job is safe. Layoffs two years in a row, and there was very little correlation to success and to those who were let go.

Pros

GSK has excellent training for new employees, training is intense and you must be prepared to leave home for minimum 3 weeks. GSK has good products, benefits, budgets, marketing materials, company cars, cell phone, credit card, computer, printer, expense account for supplies for your office and other materials.

Cons

Manage Care is having a big impact in Michigan and some other states. Physician's may like your products/drugs but if the insurance company will not pay for it, he can't use it with his patients and you will lose market share. Many of GSK best products have generic competition or in the case of Avandia (for diabetes), received some bad media coverage which cost the company billions of dollars. In the last 2 years the company has cut jobs 2 times. Rumors are out already they may have another round of cuts, year end 2009. It's not just GSK making cuts, it's the industry as a whole.
