Pros

I really enjoy working with my peers. Empowered to own my role, which can be overwhelming, but offers opportunities to get your hands dirty. Compensation and benefits are average.

Cons

Here’s what’s non-existent which is a disappointment and should raise alarms for anyone thinking about joining Fortinet: 1) Diversity and Inclusion - No programs, no resources, no communication, nothing. Fortinet doesn’t take this seriously or find D&I imperative. 2) Professional Development - You’ll be so consumed by your job, stress, and long hours that you won’t have time to invest in yourself. 3) Resources - Be prepared for your responsibilities to rapidly grow beyond what you signed up for. No wonder people burn out, leading to low morale and exits. 4) Work-life balance - Workload is always increasing, aggressive deadlines, everything is a priority, early morning calls to late evening or night calls with teams in other time zones, etc. 5) Employee Retention - I am becoming numb to updates that someone has given their notice. I’ve seen 1 to 2 people leave every month this year. It takes a long time to backfill the roles, so the work is dumped on other people, causing further burnt out and subsequently, more resignations. 6) Acquiring talented candidates - Every offer has to get reviewed and approved by the CEO. No wonder job openings remain open for months at time or even more than a year. If the CEO thinks the offer is too high, he rejects it and the hiring manager has to start all over. For a multi-billion dollar company that is experiencing hyper-growth, the CEO should be prioritizing his focus elsewhere including the issues mentioned here. 7) Company and department surveys: Why isn’t the C-level and departments’ leadership wanting to obtain feedback and get a pulse check on their employees?

Pros

- Valuable research & work is appreciated, lots of spare time to dedicate to your own research. Opportunity to present and share work. - There is flexible work hours (however, I have worked at places with much more flexibility) - Field is experiencing a lot of growth - Work is genuinely engaging and interesting. Lots of opportunity to learn and grow

Cons

- Education is valued more than work experience throughout the company. You are more valuable in some manager's eyes with a master or bachelors, even if you aren't that great at your actual job. Likewise, if you are a great developer, you might be passed up for someone with more 'education' - Some managers in some teams literally don't speak English. You may experience difficulty getting promoted if you don't speak Chinese because some teams are composed of lots of members that just have their entire meetings in Chinese. Which basically means they don't want people who don't speak Chinese in their meetings. The company is trying to solve this issue, but it is a difficult problem to solve.
