My line manager was verbally abusive and has crossed lines more than once. Even when he apologized to me later, it meant nothing as this behavior would be repeated soon. Based on what I witnessed, he will not be verbally abusive if 1) you have a higher up that can defend you 2) come from a well-connected background 3) you can do something others can’t. Heard internally he has past abrasive relationships characterized by several loud arguments. I have seen the same comments/work from me vs these people from 1 -3 that draw out polar opposite reactions from him. I can only conclude he does not know what he wants. In a proper western company, he would have been put in his place.
