Pros
Employee discount Most other staff (advisors, cleaning staff) are lovely
Cons
3 weekends per month on average. Any injuries at work class as sick pay, and only get three of those in 12 months even if you have chronic conditions (has to be life threatening). Some of the colleagues I worked with had mental health issues and these were tossed aside and almost laughed at by management. Some of them are from a different era and I understand mindsets are different but that is no excuse in my opinion. Many times I was shoved on the rota for more than double my weekly hours without being asked (it’s okay if you have the free time but I studied full time at university so during term time I had to deny it and ended up having heated conversations despite me clearly saying I could only do my contracted hours during the academic year). This job is very laborious despite them saying it’s customer facing and service, do not believe a word of it, they’ll have you doing everything. Some of the managers are disingeuous and belittling. You get the occasional good egg but most don’t care about your wellbeing - mentally or physically. I have had a few in particular who were hugely passive aggressive and hid behind ‘jokes’ to embarrass staff, even in front of other colleagues.
