Pros

It's hard to come up with the requires 20 word minimum for pros. We got new chairs, I guess.

Cons

People management skills are essentially nonexistent. People are either threatened or bullied. Not the remotest incentive to take initiative. Executives shrink from tough decisions and any/all risk, and yet seem never held accountable. No wonder Merrill has not yet been acquired no matter what they do. Colleagues are completely unwilling to treat others with respect or common courtesy. Appalling tolerance for narrowminded and culturally insensitive behavior.

Pros

I work in the internal accounting/finance group (not XBRL). Large team so plenty of resources for questions. Good location, easy access. Casual dress/jeans acceptable daily. Lots of variety die to the various businesses Merrill has.

Cons

An unhappy, struggling culture. People are miserable. Lots of distrust, unsupportive talk of coworkers, something very wrong with the tone at the top to have such a negative trickle down effect.

Pros

Low expectations by the company, and mostly laid back atmosphere. Over-educated, underemployed staff.

Cons

Complete lack of leadership at the managerial level. Zero opportunity for professional growth. Poorly compensated. Culture of blame and finger pointing by management which demoralized, almost without exception, very employee I worked with.
