Pros

Our facility is called Memphis Distribution Center (MDC), located in Memphis, TN. It's the most well-rounded distribution within Cummins and probably one of the best-performed distribution center in the US. Here you have opportunities to cooperate with people from all other functions, such as supply chain, operations, materials, IT, etc. The atmosphere is free and trusty, and MDC is very diversified; you can see people from many different countries. People are friendly and most of them are very positive and supportive.

Cons

MDC is not close to the headquarter, so the visibility is not as good as in Columbus, IN. Promotion opportunities are not as many as Columbus because most people are hired locally and are not going to transfer frequently. In order to get visible to higher management, you might have to try to find opportunities back in Columbus or use your network to other sites.

Pros

Cummins is a great company to work with. I can't even list all the pros. I came in at a middle managerial role. I had a great boss and boss's boss. Open communication. High visibility. They take appraisals and reviews very seriously. Management makes every effort possible to ensure that leaders are developed and also to accomodate your interests. Creativity and initiative is encouraged/required. Great environment. Friendly , diverse and very inclusive. You will find people of so many different nationality. Its also very results driven and process oriented. Six Sigma is a way of life. Pay is good-above market usually. Great work life balance. They truly treat employees as owners. I left because I was leaving the country and relocating, and positions that I was looking for didn't seem available there. Good training, they are ahead of the curve in OD systems and policies.

Cons

Location. Too process oriented sometimes-primarily because of the size of the company. A lot depends upon your manager and department. Getting things done takes forever. Work gets mundane and boring- because we are a conservative manufacturing firm. Too procedural. We felt that the number of forms we had to fill up to accomplish a simple task took up as much time as the job itself. Too many metrics to meet -sometimes conflicting goals. PS: the 'we' was not intentional- but that's the thing about Cummins. You will always feel like its a family company.

Pros

Most employees are very good to work with. Many knowledgable people to help bring insight to projects.

Cons

Senior leadership is part of the good 'ol boys and do not have degrees. Other management being hired takes up the slack. Very hard to get a promotion many position are open but management just run through the motions and then take the person they want not the best qualified. Communication is horrible!!!
