Pros

- Decent name to have on CV - Decent tech wise (but declining) - Company is growing revenue (but this is unlikely to benefit you because they're very cagey with equity.. so much for #betheowner) - Good springboard to move to other companies - There's probably plenty of worse companies to work for

Cons

- Management has a very insular culture, it feels very much like an us vs them situation and not a #oneteam situation. - Better engineers with higher mobility leave whilst less mobile engineers stay leading to a worsening engineering culture over time - No focus on good engineering in recent years, only cost cutting #keto - Tried to draw focus to the value of benefits like the free lunch/breakfast when discussing salary adjustments at end of year reviews.. then went on to cut the lunch budget a few months later - Trying to drive a performance culture but the pay doesn't match - Everything is urgent, when you deliver it under pressure it turns out well maybe it wasn't that important after all - Management lacks professionalism - When the current CTO came in he dissolved the developer platform team.. what does that say about the value the company puts on good engineering? - Lack of quality, most teams don't have products which interface with the outside world so there's no pressure on them to deliver quality, only the #pacematters - Management values time in the office above real performance - High attrition in general - Glassdoor review score fell from 4.6 to below 3 over a period of months a couple of years ago, it's only picked up recently because new joiners were heavily encouraged to leave good reviews

We’re disappointed to hear that this was your experience. We foster a collaborative, high-performing environment where teams feel aligned, supported and fairly rewarded for their impact. Feedback suggesting gaps in these areas is taken seriously. As the business has evolved, so have our priorities and ways of working. We remain focused on strengthening our engineering culture, improving clarity and consistency in performance and reward and ensuring we operate as one team aligned to long-term success.

Pros

- snacks, lunch (quality could be much better) - use latest technology - you can learn a lot

Cons

Working in Checkout costs me my mental health. Long hours are normal here. The culture is extremely toxic. Despite how hard you try, it won't be recognised. You feel like you are on your own all the time. Priorities constantly change. Estimations are always very unrealistic, and if you disagree, you are punished. People don't care about each other. Very easy to burn out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your time with us had such a negative impact on your wellbeing. What you’ve described doesn’t reflect the kind of environment we aim to create at Checkout.com. We know how important it is for people to feel supported, recognised and able to do their best work without compromising their mental health. While we operate in a fast-paced environment where priorities can evolve, that should never come at the expense of clarity, fairness or respect between colleagues. We’re continuing to invest in how we support our teams, whether that’s improving how work is planned and prioritised, strengthening manager capability, or creating more space for open, constructive feedback. We also recognise that experiences can vary across teams and feedback like yours plays an important role in helping us identify this. We appreciate you sharing this and we wish you all the best in your next chapter.

Pros

Fully support on AI Agent development. Free lunch

Cons

Heavy company politics. Had comments based on filename and pr format. People get fired with a reason of unclear agenda description on meetings.

We operate in a high-performance environment with clear standards around how we work and collaborate. Feedback on areas such as PR quality, communication and meeting effectiveness is part of maintaining that bar. Decisions around performance are handled carefully and follow a structured process.
