Pros

Incredible culture of brilliant people, fast decision making, tons of growth, and a collaborative approach to winning

Cons

It's fast paced, as most fintech startups are, so make sure you are up for the challenge!

Amazing product - too much internal politics

Pros

- the product is a hit! - the office space (where ever you are) is always modern, fancy and well taken care of - Checkout.com is growing and international - There's a great story behind it - The salary-level is on market level

Cons

Too much politics (which is the main downside for me, everything else is not a real negative aspect - every company has it's little flaws ... but the political culture, top-down mentality, internal power dynamics is a clear minus! I would recommend working against it by enabling the team more and giving them more power)

Hi, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your time at Checkout.com. We really appreciate your love for our story and product, which we take great pride in! And your positive comments on the office and our salary levels are also really encouraging. Thank you for also sharing those areas for improvement. On internal politics, we take your views seriously as they completely go against the meritocratic environment we’re trying to build at Checkout.com. If you’d be open to it we’d be keen to have an open conversation with you, so we can look into your case with more detail. We want to highlight a few of the initiatives we have in place to try and ensure all colleagues are valued for their efforts and we create a culture where everyone feels they get the recognition they deserve. Our quarterly Hero awards are a time to celebrate team members who go the extra mile and are true ambassadors of our values. Heroes are nominated by their colleagues and shortlisted by a panel based on objective criteria. We also have a feedback system, where employees can evaluate their managers to highlight any issues and allow us to act swiftly if problems arise. This feedback is anonymous to encourage everyone to express their opinions freely. Lastly we have anonymous whistleblowing processes in place, outside of our regular feedback system which give colleagues the chance to flag immediately any behaviour that’s not in line with our values. We’re always looking for more ways to improve our processes and policies, so your feedback is highly appreciated on this. And please reach out people.culture@checkout.com to continue the conversation. Thanks, The People Team

Hi, Thanks so much for feeding back on your experience at Checkout.com. We’re really happy to see you enjoyed the working environment during your time with us. Especially in these times we’re aware that it can be a challenge for people to connect with their colleagues, and we’re sorry that you felt that, at times team spirit was lacking. Our team in Mauritius is working hard to bring people together, and to support the mental and physical wellbeing of our colleagues, with initiatives like Friday Quizzes and presentations with helpful insights on how to strengthen our mental health. When we think back over the past 12 months, the event that brought the team together most has to be the terrible MV Wakashio oil spill. We’re very proud of our colleagues’ response - providing necessary goods, like food and toiletries, to the people affected. We’re working with an incredible team of motivated people, and a People team that will go above and beyond to provide an exceptional experience. But as you say, there’s always more we can do. If you would be happy to share your experience in further detail to support any improvements, please get in touch with us at people.culture@checkout.com. The People Team
