Pros

Good employee benefits (in-office and in general). A strong brand that you can leverage and work under. Good avenues for progression and career mobility internally. Genuinely smart, capable people with good levels of EQ. Active support across the organisation for increasing DEIB initiatives and a workforce that is reflective of this (e.g. working parent support / disability inclusion / LGBT visibility / gender pay gap discussions / etc). Always pushing for innovative ways of working and improving standards on a day-to-day basis.

Cons

The culture is amazing for someone who genuinely is excited and motivated by a fast pace and wants a no-nonsense, straightforward culture. It's great for someone who is ambitious. Not everyone thrives in this environment or can sustain pace at intensity (which is completely fine), and I would encourage anyone who wants to work here to really think about whether this aligns with their ways of working and be honest and reflective while they interview about it.

Pros

I had a lot of fun and got to work on a wide variety of projects with smart people. I was genuinely impressed with my onboarding experience and salaries were high when I joined.

Cons

There were 3 rounds of layoffs mainly affecting the People and other operational teams over a 16 month period. This was genuinely so bad for the brand and morale, how can true leaders not see how damaging this is? Especially as they have since re-hired many of those same people and talent roles. They let go of some really fantastic people professionals and a lot of those who were not impacted and left behind, are very average performers. There was a lot of toxic leaders when I worked there. The TA leaders and CPO at the time was subpar.. Honestly this company really let a lot of talented people down. It's such a shame as it really was great when I first joined.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for being part of Checkout.com for over four years! We're delighted to hear that you find our culture motivating and appreciate the clear direction, benefits, and people-centric environment we've worked hard to build. It’s fantastic to know that our focus on rewarding performance and offering career opportunities is recognised. We understand that work-life balance can be challenging in certain functions, and it's something we're actively working to improve. We're constantly refining our people strategy to address communication and engagement, and we're committed to making it easier for everyone to maintain balance while excelling in their roles. On the topic of our culture, we’re proud to invest approximately €4,000 per employee annually on breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks, and about $440 on various activities and community events like Pride and other group initiatives. Our amazing offices are designed to foster collaboration, especially with our three-days-a-week in-office model, which we believe is crucial for mental health and team cohesion. Thank you again for your feedback and your continued contributions to Checkout.com’s success!
