Pros

Lots of opportunity if you don't expect everything handed to you on a silver platter AND don't expect it overnight. On-going training to enhance your business. We work hard and play hard. Love company integrity and philosophy. Great benefits. Super atmosphere. Awesome team. Customer service centered business.

Cons

Working lots of evenings and weekends, but understand necessity due to customer traffic. I knew schedule going in. Company does not reimburse for cell phone (a must for biz) and requires employees to purchase all of their own uniforms.

Great training, poor compensation

Pros

The initial and continued on the job training is excellent. Would be a great extra income job.

Cons

Carmax is greedy! Sales associates are not compensated well for the amount of work required. From an employee pay perspective it's like the Walmart of Auto Sales. Associates aren't paid for appraisals when a car purchase is made even though it results in more work. Even wholesale vehicles are excessively marked up when purchased as an employee and utilizing this "Benefit."

Pros

At my store, we have a great sales team. Our sales managers are qualified to give advice when necessary but rarely micro manage. Our training process is one of the best in the industry and that allows more potential for success. The equities we practice are beneficial on and off the job. We are great people selling good cars. I truly enjoy working with customers and changing their opinion of how car buying should be.

Cons

Commission can be a roller coaster ride, but it's all about having common sense and a savings account for the great weeks. Sometimes the revolving door of one department leads to frustration for all departments. For example, if inventory starts a new associate just assume cars will be parked anywhere and it is made unclear who is responsible to correct it. Company is expanding too rapidly. I have personally experienced a downfall in vehicle quality especially when bringing vehicle in from other locations.
