Pros

Great employees, good benefits, lots of training, fast growing company that is stable and strong

Cons

Low starting salary for the amount of work that is expected of a mid-level manager. When you do something well, they say "Great job!" and give you even more responsibilities to handle

Pros

One of the biggest reasons of why I chose to work at Carmax was because of all the great things I had heard/read about the company, I was unpleasantly surprised

Cons

The scheduling hours suck, they in no way work with you to accommodate your personal life, management micromanaged every little aspect they possibly can often times pushing you to make unrealistic sales, out Moto is "low pressure for customers" that is completely one sided and employees are not treated with the same respect, they advertise possible transfer opportunities but it is impossible to transfer out of the store you're in, at least in the Tucson area. The managers have a lot of favoritism with employees and if you're not in their "clique" you can expect a stunt in your ability to move up within the company.

Pros

Major holidays off. Friendly co-workers. Good benifits. Ability to feel like you're helping people in an industry that is typically trying to take advantage of its consumers. Opportunities for advancement if you fit the mold. As a salary associate the vacation policy is very rewarding if your manager values Work/Life balance.

Cons

Retail hours. Nights and weekends. Pay is below industry standards but enough to make it hard to leave. (Speaking as a former Sales Consultant and current Buyer). Advancement is reserved for people who fit the "corporate" mold. Advancement towards all management roles require and exhaustive and extensive interview and panel process which, once you're deemed worthy of the opportunity for advancement, will require completion of action plans and individual development plans. Which can vary from 6 months to a year. With still no guarantee of acceptance to go to the management assessment. Work/Life balance outside of Salaried positions is not very good. Sales Consultants will work endlessly over the course of a month and their vacation pay is based off their previous months sales.
