Pros

Capco is by now (late 2014) the largest global consulting firm in financial services, considering the number of consultants they have in FS (nearly 3000 globally, almost 1000 in North America) which is more than any of their competition (including the Big 4, Accenture, etc) once you strip out those other firms' non-FS practices and Services (ITO, BPO) etc. Capco has experienced 25-35% growth each year since 2010, and there is a reason for it.... People are coming to Capco from the traditional consulting firms and from banks for one singular reason -- the culture of Capco is fantastic. There is no other firm in the FS industry that is more innovative, invests more in their employees, or has less bureaucracy and unnecessary structure. It feels like an entrepreneurial startup, even though it is not so small. Capco just held a 3-day employee gathering in Puerto Rico at the incredible El Conquistador resort. They flew down over 800 employees. The event included incredible speakers such as Peter Diamandis (X-Price founder and voted one of the 50 most influential people in the world) and parties that were legendary. People came away amazingly inspired, energized, and passionate. No other firm would do this! There is a huge focus on innovation and transformation. Employees are actively engaged and encouraged to come up with ideas, and are given support to do so. At Capco, no one will hold you back.

Cons

The very rapid growth has caused some issues. Internal systems and admin are not the best, but management are working on it. The other issue is that they have taken on some client work that is not to everyone's taste, like testing or project execution without much chance for employees to shape the strategy. Some people like that kind of work, but others (like me) would rather work on making a real difference for the client. Management is open about the challenges -- on one hand Capco has built a fantastic business, growth and consulting model based on long term client commitments, on the other hand they are well aware of the issues it causes some people and are actively trying to fix it. Things aren't perfect. They aren't at any firm. What I really like about Capco is that management is very open about the challenges and engage employees about the best way to solve them.

Pros

Good healthcare benefits and salary; on par with other firms Nice NY office (can't speak to other locations but from what I hear they're VERY different; read: smaller) Open door policy and some interesting and fun people to work with. Partners generally approachable and trying to do the best for employees

Cons

Projects / projects / projects: Literally no projects at this company that require in-depth analysis or critical thinking. Most work happens on a handful of mega-large accounts that resemble nothing more than various levels of staff-augmentation for middle and back office jobs. No matter how much lipstick you're trying to slap on this, it's NOT consulting and never will be, regardless how you're trying to spin this. If you're (like me) thinking you will join a strategy & technology consulting company with traditional projects, please think twice!! You're in for a rude awakening and will likely be working on a large scale project for many many months / years. Lack of any back office processes / tools / staff: No knowledge management system, you're literally starting from scratch when getting on a new project. If you don't know who to ask, you're on your own. Lots of duplicate work and no efficiency No central processes and completely overwhelmed HR staff: people are simply trying not to drown in work but this is not the same as actively supporting the needs of the front-office consultants. No training to speak of once you're in the door (amazing for consulting firm!!). You're hired for the skills you have, not for your potential or what you could become. Lack of quality people: Growth trajectory of 30% YOY and lack of quality projects / reputation in the market place means HR and recruiting will say anything to get you in the door (see yours truly) and is not discerning when it comes to quality of new hires. You have a pulse, you're almost in. Work happy hours routinely (almost without fail) descend into unprofessional drunken revelry with employees getting out of hand, sick from all the drinking or displaying other unprofessional behavior... I leave the rest to your imagination

Pros

Capco has been a great place to work. They practice what they preach in terms of meritocracy; as an Associate I have had ample facetime with partners and upper management. Career growth at Capco lands squarely on the individual. The more you expose yourself to senior leadership, and the more you become involved in the processes, the more successful you will be. IF you are a good employee, you WILL get promoted. Capco also has a very impressive list of Tier 1, bulge-bracket clients, and if you are a good employee you can choose your projects and career path. Every partner I have had the opportunity to meet has been very impressive and extremely welcoming.

Cons

Every new company has its growing pains. At times, meetings or ideas can feel thrown together and disorganized and the lack of structure that creates so many positives in other areas can sometimes be a negative.
