Pros

Pool table, free soft drinks, shoe shine people once a week and sparking water. Given you will hardly be in the office you won’t see much of this.

Cons

Capco is the biggest mis-sell its the PPI mis-sell of consultancies!. During the hiring process you will be told that you will be working with the best. In my two years here I’m still looking for the best. I have looked everywhere in the old office the new office, i even looked in Boldrocket...nothing. Career progression is like being in a Masonic lodge secret handshakes and clique who seem to be excelling while everyone else sits and waits. No transparency at all on how and why people have been graded. There is a claim of a feedback culture which is a joke, feedback is an opinion based on someone’s perception and experience. However say how you feel it will quickly be turned round into your problem. For a company that claims to be disrupt they don’t seem to like being disrupted. There is a talk of everyone being family..if that’s the case there is a lot of incest in this family! There is no support, very poor training from the get go. The type of work you will be sold onto is PMO and managed services work. There is hardly any real or core consulting projects. The very few that are have been earmarked for the clique. You will not be told any of this before joining. There is a huge demand for butts on seats so there is a huge drive to grow the firm. The recruitment is a joke. If you come via the ATP be prepared to have your potential career and entry via the first stages be talked about over beer. If you come in as an experienced hire be prepared to be interviewed by someone with less FS knowledge then you. Be prepared to be called a body shop by some of the more established client base. Middle management here is amazingly poor. No people skills and no gravitas. You will see some people badmouth their peers and those they supposedly manage. Shout at staff in front of clients and take things very personally. If you are looking for professionalism you will not find it here. If you want cut corners then come! There also seems to be a lack of FS understanding. People have claimed the credit crisis was due to banks having poor data. All the articles i read and news channels claimed it was due to irresponsible lending...that right there shows the skill of people you could work with. Your CV speaks volumes...if it has Capco on it will not get you very far. Nor will you learn anything other than how to lie. Go to the Big 4.

Thanks for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that you are not having a good experience, as Capco is committed to providing an inclusive working environment and growth opportunities for all of our people. The focus group sessions held earlier this year, sponsored by our CEO, gave every employee an opportunity to have their say on what’s working well, where improvements are needed and to put forward any ideas they have. As a result, eight engagement work streams have been formed sponsored by the senior management team covering some of the topics you mention including feedback and coaching. While it might not seem to you that there is support available, I would strongly encourage you to reach out to your HC Business Partner or me to discuss. We do offer many opportunities for training and career development, and would be happy to work with you to help you to be successful. We welcome your feedback.

Pros

Good place to work as a senior consultant with a specific skill

Cons

Capco shattered my confidence, its only now working at a different firm that I realise that Capco does not allow you to make mistakes or therefore learn. Management does not provide ANY guidance in your career. The work was mainly contracting work not consulting with no real skills learned. The top management are mainly a group of very click-y people who I felt were only there for self-promotions and to count numbers. There is a lot of fluff around new ideas and to be innovative, but I never remember having interesting, intelligent conversation with many people. Working in Financial services for a Financial services firm is really interesting, but not much PROPER training happens within either core consulting or finance. Training is all in house, which means that there is no standards to be meet across topic or geography. Your bonus is also based on your contribution to the firm which is a massive driver to "train" people. Looking back, i don't think i learned how to be professional at Capco nor does it foster professionalism in the office. Often you would see documents lying around the office on desks market "strictly confidential" or naming clients on, which is stupid. I just am so glad I don't work there anymore, safe yourself a lot of upset and just don't apply.

Thanks for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear about your experience at Capco, as Capco is committed to providing career development and guidance for our people at all levels. Providing support and guidance to all employees is a fundamental part of the Capco ethos – we have recently restructured our coaching model, so that employees at all levels have access to a network of coaching and mentoring support. The coaching family networks are there to provide career advice, support and learning. In addition, the firm is investing heavily in core training schools for all levels of the business with the content of these schools based on direct feedback from our people. One of the great advantages of a career in consulting is the ability to work on different client projects and get broad exposure. While every role may not be an exact match for an individual’s longer-term career interests, our aim is always to work closely with our employees and their coaches to ensure that we are providing challenging consulting opportunities for them to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Capco UK moved to a new office location in Shoreditch in 2014, which supports a more collaborative, open plan working environment. However, professionalism, client confidentiality and security remain of the upmost importance. This is reinforced by the leadership team and regular security audits. We remain dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive working environment for all employees and would be happy to speak with you about your experiences at Capco.
